At The Mahoning Drive-In Theater, we’re all about traditions, returning season after season, recalling fond memories while making new ones. One of our favorite traditions growing up was the yearly TV broadcast of THE WIZARD OF OZ, and we once again are excited to welcome everyone back with our own continuation of that tradition, our annual opening weekend, featuring 35mm presentations of THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) and WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971) on the giant Mahoning screen!
The evening starts as we invite young and old to celebrate MGM’s miracle musical show of shows, THE WIZARD OF OZ, making that trip over the rainbow with The Scarecrow, The Tin Man, Dorothy (and her little dog, too) and The Cowardly Lion as they search for a brain, a heart, a home, and the nerve in the merry old Land of Oz.
Next up, we give everyone a Golden Ticket to stride right through the gates of a pro-confectionary palace, where you get to meet everyone’s favorite cantankerous chocolatier in WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971)! Take a scrumdidilyumptious trip into a world of pure imagination with Gene Wilder in a film filled with laughs, lessons, songs, brief unexpected terror, and a gaggle of glorious goodies so tempting, you’ll want to lick the screen! (Please don’t lick the screen. You’d need a big ladder anyway. Better yet, hit the snack bar! A Lucky Winner each night will Find The GOLDEN TICKET and recieve fabulous prizes)
Gates Open at 6p. Show starts at Sundown! Be sure to arrive early for a dazzling array of photo ops, costumed characters, raffle prizes, and special surprises!
