75 Years On 35mm!
It’s time once again to go over the rainbow and enter a world of pure imagination, as The Mahoning Drive-In Theater opens for its 75th season of 35mm cinema under the stars!
On May 10th-11th, we present our traditional opening double feature, a time for friends and family to come together and celebrate two films so many of us grew up with, from annual TV broadcasts to early home video, that took us to magical lands filled with sparkling wonders: THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) and WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971)!
As many of you know, this has been a hard start for us with the tragic and sudden loss of our leader. This event (and every to follow) will serve as a loving tribute to Jeff Mattox and his legacy. A memorial video and preshow dj set each night will lead into our feature presentations.
On Friday night, we join Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion as they dodge the Wicked Witch in search of THE WIZARD OF OZ. Then, after a brief intermission, everyone gets a Golden Ticket to enter the tasty, tantalizing (and occasionally terrifying) world of WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, the most musically munchable movie of all time!
Once again, we’ll be flipping the order of the films on Saturday night, to allow for those with earlier bedtimes to catch WILLY WONKA first, followed by THE WIZARD OF OZ.
In addition to both films presented in glorious 35mm, we’ll have a live DJ set before the films, costumed characters, special food items, themed dispays by Robbie's Balloons, raffles and one lucky winner each night who’ll find a Golden Ticket in their popcorn, redeemable for fabulous Wonka-worthy prizes!
Gates open at 6pm, showtime at sundown.
General Ticket: $12 (per person) - General+Extended Pass: $22 (per person)
Kids Pricing: $5 General Ticket (under 13years).
*For this event we will also be offering FREE Extended Passes for children under 13 (must have General Ticket)! As always, Children 4 and under are FREE;)
