On May 31st and June 1st, prepare yourself for an otherworldly onslaught of extraterrestrial terror when The Mahoning Drive-In Theater presents ALIEN INVASION WEEKEND, two nights of 35mm interplanetary interlopers on the big, BIG screen!
Down from the heavens and out into the galaxy, we explore human/alien interactions sure to make you dread your drive home, with nervous eyes on the skies!
Friday night, May 31st, is Alien Abduction Night! Beginning with Steven Spielberg’s 1977 blockbuster CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, in which Richard Dreyfus has a run-in with a UFO and becomes obsessed with getting a second date with visitors from another world, with the aid of mashed potatoes and Francois Truffaut!
Then, it’s time to take a dark journey into the real-life VERY close encounter experienced by Travis Walton FIRE IN THE SKY (1993), a terrifying look at a logger kidnapped by a UFO, and the physical and emotion trauma that ensues. If this one doesn’t make you afraid to be an Arizona logger in the 1970s, nothing will! Starring D.B. Sweeney, Robert Patrick, Henry Thomas and James Garner.
On Saturday night, June 1st, it’s time to fight facehuggers and the big bad Queen when we present Ridley Scott’s ALIEN (1979), followed by James Cameron’s ALIENS (1986)!
See Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the crew of the Nostromo venture out into deep space and find strange eggs that hatch into VERY unfriendly alien creatures that find very uncomfortable places to hide! Then we up the action ante with space Marines (with a tough-as-nails Ripley as their guide) vs an army of aliens, in one of the greatest sequels and horror/sci-fi/action of all time!
Arrive early for themed DJ sets, raffles, themed food items and more fun before the sun sets and the starry sky descends onto the massive Mahoning screen!
