On Sunday, May 5th, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater proudly presents director Paul Thomas Anderson’s breakout feature, BOOGIE NIGHTS (1997) on 35mm, part of our ongoing Sunday Essentials series.
BOOGIE NIGHTS captured a moment in time, the height of the California adult film industry of the 1970s, though the eyes of an up and comer in the industry (Mark Wahlberg), as he navigates fame and the dark corners of celebrity, along with his fellow performers and crew, in a deeply human look at the people who fabricate fleshy fantasy as times and the industry change.
Featuring a killer 70s-80s soundtrack and an all-star cast, many of whom would go on to A-List careers in the years that followed. With Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Heather Graham, William H. Macy, Don Cheadle, and Burt Reynolds in a career-best performance as the film director and father figure to this tribe of lost souls.

Sunday Essentials is a series of single-feature 35mm presentations highlighting classics from all genres, with themed trailers and introductions by authors and film scholars, providing context and insight into the films screened.
