ABOUT ABOUT

On Saturday, August 12, Exhumed Films and The Mahoning Drive-In Theater invite you to get SHOT OUT A CANNON!, as we present four films from the legendary 80s Golan-Globus Cannon Films library, all on 35mm!   It’s slammin’ Cannon from dusk ‘til dawn!

Spend the night with Bronson, Dudikoff, Lundgren, and Shabba-Doo, in a brawn-bending ferocious foursome of ninjas, intergalactic warriors, move busters and tough cops as the swords, bullets, and backspins fill the mighty Mahoning screen on original 35mm prints, plus classic Cannon trailers before each outrageous excursion into 80s excess! With live introductions by THE CANNON FILM GUIDE author Austin Trunick, who’ll be with us selling and signing copies of his book all night!

First up, Michael Dudikoff stars as a not-so-average Joe in the first entry of the series that would make him a Cannon action icon, AMERICAN NINJA (1985).  The deadliest art of the Orient is now in the hands of an American G.I. (Dudikoff), who takes on the secret Black Star Army of ninjas in the Philippines. The adventure…the confrontation…the code…the invasion…the final hour!

Then, the MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE (1987) come to Earth to do battle!  Who will seize ultimate control of Castle Grayskull? Thrill as Dolph Lundgren flexes as He-Man, and Frank Langella scowls as Skeletor in this big-screen adaptation of the popular 80s toy line and cartoon show!  Featuring Courtney Cox and Meg Foster as Evil-Lyn!

As we hit film number three, it’s time to break out the cardboard and get down to some serious power moves with BREAKIN’ (1984)! Push it to pop it! Rock it to lock it! Break it to make it! Cannon’s attempt to cash in on the dance craze that was sweeping the nation follows the story of a trio of street dancers who rise to the top of the breakdancing world. Featuring the hottest breakdancers in America…Shabba-doo, Boogaloo Shrimp, and the amazing 9-year-old sensation Coco!

We end the evening with a slice of darkness before the dawn, as Charles Bronson hunts down human traffickers in KINJITE: FORBIDDEN SUBJECTS (1989).  Bronson’s final film for Cannon, this tawdry tale of a tough cop busting up an underage prostitution ring costars Nicole Eggert and Peggy Lipton. Desire.  Temptation. Revenge.  Bronson!

Gates open at 6pm, showtime at sundown.
