On Friday, October 18th, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater pays tribute to one of the most idiosyncratic and chameleon-like actors of the last forty years, as we go on a DEPP DIVE with a Johnny Depp 35mm double feature on the big, BIG screen!
We’re proud to present two 1990’s film classics, pairing the determinedly demented Depp with the brilliantly bonkers Burton, delivering a double-shot of cinematic quirky cool!
We begin with Tim Burton’s dark fairy tale of a very unusual man with scissors for hands, created by an elderly inventor in a grey and gloomy world, who finds himself out of place in the sunny suburbs, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1990)! Will he find his place among the pastel world of housewives and hedges? With Winona Ryder, Dianne Weist, Anthony Michael Hall, Kathy Baker and Vincent Price!
Then we shift to a film by a quirky director, ABOUT a quirky director, ED WOOD (1994)! SEE! UFOs over Hollywood (or pie-plate facsimiles thereof)! SEE! Johnny Depp as the infamous director of BRIDE OF THE MONSTER, GLEN OR GLENDA?, and PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, in a fun and heartfelt tribute to the band of showbiz fringe-dwellers assembled to create what some have called the Worst Movie Ever Made, in one of the great modern biopics about moviemaking, ED WOOD! Featuring Bill Murray, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker, and George “The Animal” Steele!
