The Mahoning Drive-In Theater inaugurates the Mahoning Icon Series, featuring luminaries of Drive-In Cinema who helped shape the genre and whose work reverberates in art and culture. We kick off with a 35mm double feature tribute to the queen of 1970’s action cinema, Pam Grier, featuring a 50th anniversary screening of COFFY (1973), followed by FOXY BROWN (1974)!
They call her COFFY, ‘cuz if you jive her, she’ll cream ya! Pam Grier stars as the inner-city nurse who takes revenge on the drug pushers who killed her sister. She’s a one-woman hit squad who leaves a path of destruction in her wake, to the beat of a funky Roy Ayers soundtrack.
Then, Pam is back to do a job on the mob as FOXY BROWN, a chick with drive, who don’t take no jive! There ain’t no hope for dudes who deal dope when Foxy uses her black belt in barstools on the criminal network devastating the urban landscape!
Have no fear, Pam Grier is here, with two classic American International action films of the 70s, films that cemented her as a cinematic force, an icon in the world cinema, whose beauty, strength and dignity shone through every role and made her a legend!
