On August 18-19, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater invites you to step out of the waking world and into THE WILD WORLD OF DAVILD LYNCH, two nights of features, with a special TWIN PEAKS cast reunion, VIP exclusives, Red Room photo op (by Faye & Tank) and a live performance by David Lynch tribute band F You, Tammy!
David Lynch has long been renowned for his artistic, beautiful, bizarre, and disturbing films, mixing fantasy and reality and leaving audiences dazzled, baffled, and fascinated for almost half a century. The Mahoning Drive-In Theater once again celebrates Lynch’s unique vision with a two-day tribute to all things Lynchian, a fan gathering that starts under the sun each day, and ends beneath the stars each night.
Friday, Aug. 18th:
THE STRAIGHT STORY (1999) David Lynch made a DISNEY MOVIE? Why yes he did, and it’s a wonderfully gentle tale of an elderly Iowa man in failing health (Richard Farnsworth) who sets out to reconcile with his estranged brother in Wisconsin, via his only means of transportation…a riding lawnmower. Based on a true story and costarring Sissy Spacek, Everett McGill (Big Ed from TWIN PEAKS), and Max The Wonder Dog. Presented on original 35mm.
INLAND EMPIRE (2006) – Laura Dern stars as an actress who finds herself being overtaken by the character she plays in a new film, as the world around her begins to unravel. With Justin Theroux, Harry Dean Stanton, Jeremy Irons and Grace Zabriskie. Originally shot on digital video, we will be presenting this film digitally.
Saturday night kicks off with a return performance from the dreamy F You, Tammy, playing songs from the director’s filmography under the massive Mahoning screen, setting the mood for a journey deep into the dark & WILD WORLD OF DAVID LYNCH:
LOST HIGHWAY (1997) – Bill Pullman stars as a musician accused of murder, whose identity morphs, blends, and separates into a dark, dreamlike world where fantasy and reality blend into a living nightmare. With Patricia Arquette, Balthazar Getty, and Robert Blake as the “Mystery Man”.
TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME (1992) – The feature film prequel to the TV series (1990-1991), delving into the inky darkness of the life of Laura Palmer and the citizens of the sleepy Washington logging town, where disturbing secrets lurk under the serene surface. Featuring the TV cast, along with Chris Isaak, Harry Dean Stanton, Kiefer Sutherland, and David Bowie.
Both presented on Original 35mm.
We’re thrilled to welcome special TWIN PEAKS guests to the theater both nights! TWIN PEAKS cast members Michael Horse (Deputy Hawk), Dana Ashbrook (Bobby Briggs) and Harry Goaz (Deputy Andy) will be with us both nights, signing autographs and taking photos at their table! At additional cost.
This event is dedicated to the memory of longtime Lynch collaborator John Neff (1951-2022), re-recording mixer on THE STRAIGHT STORY and MULHOLLAND DRIVE, location sound recordist on INLAND EMPIRE, who had planned to be a guest at this event, but sadly passed away earlier this year.
