On Friday and Saturday, May 12-13, it’s a metal on metal melee as the twin titans of titanium throw down and go steel toe to toe as The Mahoning Drive-In Theater presents “Robocop Vs. Terminator” a two-night 35mm event featuring the first two films in each franchise on the giant outdoor screen!
Friday night, he’s part man, part machine, all cop. Peter Weller stars in Paul Verhoeven’s futuristic satire of the militarization of police, ROBOCOP (1987), as the cop with a literal spring in his step, a supercharged cyborg crime fighter out to clean up the town with the aid of his human partner, Nancy Allen. He’s back to protect the innocent in ROBOCOP 2 (1990), with Weller and Allen returning to face an evil robofoe! Directed by Irwin Kersherne.
Saturday night, a killer robot from the future is set back to eliminate one Sarah Connor in James Cameron’s THE TERMINATOR (1984), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular Terminator and Linda Hamilton as the terminatee. It’s the iconic sci-fi action thriller that launched Arnold’s catchphrase, and true to it, he was back in TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY, a sequel that ups the ante and was a groundbreaker in the world of special effects. This time there’s not one, but TWO Terminators looking for John Connor (Edward Furlong) and his mother, Arnold’s T-800 and the newer, liquid metal T-1000 model (Robert Patrick)!
