On Friday, October 6th through Sunday October 8th, Exhumed Films and The Mahoning Drive-In Theater return to the cinema of supercool with TARANTINOA-GO-GO III, bringing gangsters, vampires, martial arts and pistoleers to the giant outdoor screen on 35mm!
He’s the fast-talking auteur who shook up screens in the 90s with his throwback style and celebration of deep-cut B-Movie bliss, bringing snappy dialogue, ultraviolence, crackerjack soundtracks and career resurrections to the big screen, with an asteroid-like impact on indie and Hollywood films for years to come, and we’ve got three nights of Tarantino classics, with a twist!
This time, we follow our Friday and Saturday night double features with a third film, culled from the pages of Quentin Tarantino’s ode to the films of his youth, CINEMA SPECULATION, tales of crime and punishment, 70s style!
Friday, October 6th
We begin with the film that launched Quentin Tarantino into the cinematic stratosphere, PULP FICTION (1994)! Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis and John Travolta star in a nonlinear journey into a dark and delirious world of hit men, gangsters, twist contests and foreign fast food menus.
We follow that up with a crime drama turned horror film, as robbers on the run (George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino) flee a bungled burgle with hostages (Harvey Keitel and Juliette Lewis), and seek refuge in a bar south of the border, where sinister forces are hungry for more than beer and burgers. Will they survive…FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996)? Written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Robert Rodriguez.
Our final film of the night draws from CINEMA SPECULATION, Don Siegel’s classic ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ (1979), with Clint Eastwood as a prisoner who wants off of The Rock, and Patrick McGoohan as the warden determined to keep him in his place.
Saturday, October 7th
Saturday night brings slicing and dicing, kicking and sticking, as Uma Thurman works her way through all who get in her way as she stops at nothing to KILL BILL! We present both installments as a double feature, KILL BILL: VOL. 1 (2003) and KILL BILL: VOL. 2 (2004), Quentin Tarantino’s artful ode to the Shaw Brothers martial arts classics of his youth, with his own stylish spin on the flying fists of vengeance.
The evening ends with vengeance of a different kind, as paid tribute to in CINEMA SPECULATION: John Flynn’s THE OUTFIT (1973). Robert Duvall robs a mob-owned bank and goes to jail, and comes out with a score to settle. Featuring Joe Don Baker, Karen Black, Richard Jaeckel and Timothy Carey!
Sunday, October 8th
Our last round-up is one of frontier ferocity, as a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) and a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) partner up and ride a bloody trail of revenge and reunion in DJANGO UNCHAINED (2012)! Drawing from spaghetti westerns, slavesploitation, and the cinematic cannon of Fred Williamson, it’s historical fiction filtered through the film-frenzied mind of Quentin Tarantino, a pistol-packin’ punch to the gut that rips open American history and whizzes in the wound! Vintage 35mm western trailers from films that inspired this one kick off the night!
